Dr. Capezzuto completed his formal training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Katan Center for Psychoanalysis of the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Society in 1996. He is fully certified in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. He earned his Licensed Independent Social Worker status in 1996 as well. In 2008 he earned his supervisory licensuer status. Dr. Capezzuto is an Accredited Forensic Counselor, Master Forensic Social Worker, Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners, and Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Social Workers.
Dr. Capezzuto began his psychotherapy career in 1995 working with the elderly. This continued until 1997, when he broadened his scope of service provision to consumers outside the geriatric population by working in a hospital environment between the years of 1998 and 2001 where he treated patients with chronic pain, health issues, medical compliance issues, terminal illnesses, and acute and chronic pain and medical conditions. In addition, since 1997 he has been involved with evaluating and treating forensic populations.
His psychoanalytic training and approach to psychotherapy has been challenged by today’s behavioral health environment, but Dr. Capezzuto continues to conceptualize his treatment around psychoanalytic theories. He feels that in order to experience lasting change, a psychodynamic approach and understanding of oneself is essential in the treatment process.
To date, Dr. Capezzuto treats older children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He has experience treating mood and anxiety disorders, chronic pain, disruptive behavioral disorders, and personality disorders. He conducts forensic assessments, pre-employment screening evalutations, and pre-surgical evaluations. He also provides treatment to consumers involved with the criminal and civil justice systems at all levels and is an assistant professor of Forensic Psychology. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute.
