Dr. Joseph Marzano has been a mental health provider in the Youngstown and Warren region since 1994. He is currently licensed in the state of Ohio as an LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) which was active after completing a Masters program in Community Counseling from Youngstown State University in 1995. Dr. Marzano initially earned a Bachelor degree in psychology at Bowling Green State University in 1992. His most recent academic achievement was recognized in 2006 with the completion of a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Walden University in affiliation with Indiana University.
Dr. Marzano has a wide range of clinical experience that includes diagnostic assessment, psychotherapeutic treatment for children, adolescents, and adults, crises intervention and family intervention. He began his clinical career with Valley Counseling Services in Liberty, Ohio. There he served as a case manager for two years having the primary responsibility of working with the severely mentally ill patients in hospital or controlled settings such as Woodside Hospital and Northside Hospital. This experience helped to develop his assessment and treatment techniques in the recognition of symptoms associated with mental illness. He quickly was promoted to Clinical Therapist at Valley Counseling Services where his clientele was focused on individual and family treatment for those individuals with mild to moderate levels of symtomolgy.
In 1998, Dr. Marzano began working in the private sector of mental health at a number of mental health agencies in Mahoning and Trumbull County. His most recent venture being with Allied Behavioral Health Services, Inc. which he helped to establish in Austintown, Ohio in May of 2003. In the private sector of mental health, he had the opportunity to also serve as an internship site supervisor at Youngstown State University and Kent State University. His academic focus expanded to student advisor in adolescent development with students from many local school districts including: Canfield, Boardman, Austintown, Struthers, Campbell, Poland, Mineral Ridge, Lake Milton, and Springfield local schools.
He often states that his professional experience combined with his personal experience of being born, raised, and living in Mahoning County has helped him appreciate a thorough understanding of the clients he works with and the communities in which they live. To date, Dr. Marzano treats a variety of individuals ranging from young children to older adults. His clinical experience is also quite broad providing treatment for anxiety, depression, adjustment to life transition, grief, pain management, anger management, fitness for duty evaluation, behavioral disorders, and personality disorders.
