Dr. Richards began his counseling career working with children, adolescents and their parents and teachers. Based in a school setting and using the individual and group approaches, this program later served as one of three Illinois school counseling demonstration projects funded by the Illinois State Department of Education in 1966.
In 1970, Dr. Richards completed his Ph.D. in Counseling at Southern Illinois University before joining the faculty at Youngstown State University. From 1970-1996 he was a member of the Department of Counseling faculty, serving as Department Chairperson for six of those years.
Licensed as an Ohio Psychologist in 1974, Dr. Richards has provided counseling and psychotherapy focused on treating adjustment and mood disorders, anxiety, depression, grief and loss issues, and interpersonal issues. Currently, Dr. Richards treats adolescents and adults, employing individual, couples, and family therapy modes, and offers Christian counseling when requested.
Dr. Richards is a member of the American Psychological Association and a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
